Earlier this year McDermid Controls were very proud to have been awarded our first ever international contract to supply and install a BMS system in the Amazon warehouse located in Essen, Germany.
The conversion of an existing factory into an Amazon warehouse meant that the background heating system and Controls needed to be upgraded in order to provide the factory floor with a consistent 18°C temperature.
This being McDermid Controls first international job, there were some new challenges to face, namely ensuring all labels on the panels were correctly translated into German and shipping logistics and resources to Essen, however we were ready and willing to face the challenge.
McDermid Controls installed a total of nine Control Panels for this project, one being the main Control Panel serving the heating, domestic hot water and ventilation for the entire site.
A further eight unit heater panels were installed in the warehouse supplying heat to the factory floor. The MTHW heat source for the warehouse comes from Essen’s district heating system where all energy used comes from the Essen-Karnap waste-to-energy plant – one of the largest of its type in Germany. This type of heating system has the benefit of reducing the amount of waste to landfill, reduction of carbon emissions and reducing the use of fossil fuels.
The entire system is controlled with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure platform.
